Membership of MRC is open to all individuals and legal entities without any discrimination — regardless of nationality, citizenship, ethnic origin, gender, disability, religious beliefs, language, social background, or political opinions. All members commit to upholding MRC's principles and objectives.

Three ways to be a member

MRC membership is open to all. Each membership category carries its own rights and responsibilities, and all members share a common commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.

Active Member

Full membership with voting rights and the right to stand for election to MRC's governing bodies. The most engaged form of membership. MVR 50 / year + MVR 10 registration fee (once off)

Subscribing Member

Open to individuals and legal entities who wish to support MRC's mission. Does not carry voting rights or the right to stand for election.

Honorary Member

Awarded by the Governing Board to individuals who have given exceptional service to MRC with an outstanding reputation

Rights of Active members

Express your opinion at meetings and enquire about MRC's activities

Within the framework of MRC's Statutes and Rules of Procedure.

Vote in MRC elections at Unit level and above, if elected

Active Members only. Voting rights apply after three months of membership.

Stand for election to MRC's governing bodies

Active Members only, subject to eligibility criteria in the Statutes.

Report serious misconduct or threats to MRC's interests

All members have the right to report a serious incidence of misconduct, a violation of the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement or a serious threat or harm to the interest of the Maldivian Red Crescent. Any member who reports such an incidence must be ensured the same protection as stipulated in Article 10.1 of this statutes

Responsibilities of Members

  • Respect, promote and work towards achieving the objectives of the Maldivian Red Crescent
  • Act in accordance with the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement as stipulated in Article 1.2 of these Statutes, refrain from acts contradicting the Maldivian Red Crescent’s objectives in the activities organized by or partaken by the Maldivian Red Crescent
  • Accept and adhere to the rules and regulations of the Maldivian Red Crescent, including Statutes, Rules of Procedure and Code of Conduct
  • Ensure payment of their membership fees, if applicable
