Male' City Unit
Established in 2010, the Malé City Unit is the first and longest-serving Unit of the Maldivian Red Crescent. Serving Greater Malé Area, the nation's most populous area and the hub of economic and essential services, the Unit has been at the frontline of emergency response and humanitarian action in the capital.
The Malé City Unit operates across the Greater Malé Region covering Malé City, Hulhumalé, Villimalé and the industrial islands. The region is a densely populated urban area that presents a unique humanitarian environment. The sheer concentration of people, the complexity of services required, and the diversity of the community including one of the Maldives' largest migrant populations means the Unit is always active. There is never an off-season for humanitarian need in the capital.
From large-scale emergency deployments to quiet, sustained community engagement, Malé City Unit delivers the full breadth of MRC's Programmes and Service. Its volunteers are trained in emergency response, First Aid, Psychosocial Support, and Patient Transport and they show up, consistently, whenever the city needs them.
