MRC Leadership Strengthens Diplomatic Engagements With Key Partners

The Maldivian Red Crescent President Ali Nashid and Secretary General Ahmed Shabin d conducted a series of introductory and courtesy visits to members of the diplomatic corps in the Maldives. These engagements served to reinforce long-standing humanitarian connections, particularly with Red Cross and Red Crescent counterparts while exploring shared priorities in resilience-building, community engagement, and humanitarian cooperation.

MRC Leadership Strengthens Diplomatic Engagements With Key Partners

Meeting with the Ambassador of China to the Maldives

President Ali and SG Shabin met with H.E. Kong Xianhua, Ambassador of China to the Maldives, for an introductory meeting on 28th October 2025 focused on enhancing resilience and humanitarian cooperation.

During the discussion, both sides reflected on MRC’s strong partnership with the Red Cross Society of China, whose support played a vital role during the COVID-19 response and in strengthening MRC’s emergency response capacities. The meeting underscored the important link between diplomatic cooperation and the humanitarian collaboration established through the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.


Engagement with the Bangladesh High Commission to the Maldives

On 28th October 2025, President Ali and SG Shabin met with H.E. Md. Nazmul Islam, Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Maldives, to discuss mutual priorities around community engagement and resilience.

The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society remains an important Movement counterpart in the region, and the discussions highlighted how diplomatic and humanitarian partnerships can work in parallel to support vulnerable communities especially migrant populations within the Maldives.


Visit to the Australian High Commission

On 05th November 2025, MRC President Ali and SG Shabin also met with David Jessup, Australia’s High Commissioner to the Maldives in an introductory meeting . The dialogue focused on the strong support faciliated by Australian Red Cross during the formative years of MRC and  strengthening partnerships and identifying areas of mutual engagement for future avenus of colloabration building on Australia’s longstanding support for humanitarian collaboration.



Across all engagements, MRC emphasised the importance of strong diplomatic relationships that reinforce and complement the work of Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement partners. By engaging both the diplomatic corps and respective National Societies, MRC continues to strengthen cooperation aimed at advancing humanitarian services, protecting vulnerable communities, and supporting resilience across the Maldives.
