With mosquito breeding sites on the rise and dengue cases increasing across the country, MRC has mobilized its volunteer networks across multiple units to support coordinated prevention and awareness efforts in communities nationwide

MRC Volunteers Joins Effort to Combat Rising Dengue Cases Across the Maldives

Working in close partnership with the Health Protection Agency (HPA), local health centres, island councils, and other stakeholders, MRC volunteers are actively engaged on the ground, identifying and eliminating breeding sites and supporting public health awareness as part of a broader efforts.

Greater Malé

In the Greater Malé region, volunteers participated in joint inspections and awareness activities led by HPA, alongside Hulhumalé Hospital, Villimalé Hospital, the Housing Development Corporation, and Malé City Council. These efforts are focused on eliminating mosquito breeding sites across the area, with particular attention to construction zones where stagnant water poses a heightened risk.

Kulhudhuffushi City

In Kulhudhuffushi City, MRC volunteers have been actively engaged alongside HPA, the Kulhudhuffushi City Council, and Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital in identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding sites across the city. MRC also participated in a city-wide cleaning Programme coordinated by the Dengue Task Force, which brought together more than 850 employees from the City Council and 33 institutions in a large-scale coordinated effort to reduce dengue risk across the community.

GDh. Gadhdhoo

In GDh. Gadhdhoo, MRC volunteers are working jointly with Gadhdhoo Council, and Gadhdhoo Health Centre to take targeted measures to reduce the spread of dengue and protect the health of the local community.

Awareness and Outreach

Alongside on-the-ground action, MRC is scaling up public awareness through digital platforms and multilingual awareness materials ensuring that communities across the Maldives have access to clear, accessible information on how to prevent mosquito breeding and protect themselves and their families.
