Capacity Building for Emergency Response Training: Bringing the B. Maalhos community together to fight against disasters
With recurrent flooding, incidents of household fires and periodic sea swells, B. Maalhos is highly prone to and easily affected by disaster situations. This was made palpable during the Island Disaster Management Planning workshop held in May 2023, especially during the community consultation process where several community members expressed their concern regarding the cumulative damage caused by small scale yet, rife disaster situations. As such, in dialogue with the Island Council and community members, from 11th to 15th February 2024, MRC supported the implementation of a Capacity Building for Emergency Response Training in collaboration with Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) and Pakistan’s Rescue 1122.

First Responders Forum 2024: Strengthening collaboration between emergency responders
The Inaugural First Responders Forum in the Maldives was held from 20 to 21 February 2024 by MRC and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) with the support of the Strengthening Preparedness and Resilience through Inclusive Community Governance (SPRING) project, in partnership with the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center and supported by USAID.

Building Resilience in the Maldives: B. Kendhoo successfully executes an Indian Ocean-wide Tsunami Exercise Drill
On 25th October 2023, the 7th IOWAVE drill was carried out for the first time in the Maldives in B. Kendhoo in collaboration with the Maldivian Red Crescent, National Disaster Management Authority and Maldives Meteorological Services.

Strengthening Community Resilience Through Exercise Hiyaa: A Full-Scale Emergency Simulation
The full-scale Emergency Exercise, Exercise Hiyaa, was executed on 24th February 2024, at Hiyaa Tower 16, Hulhumale’ Phase 2. This full-scale emergency exercise, executed in partnership with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and various response agencies, supported by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center and USAID, under the Strengthening Preparedness and Resilience through Inclusive Community Governance (SPRING) Project.

Empowering Youth for Climate Action: Insights from Regional Y-Adapt Training of Facilitators in South Asia
From July 1st to 6th 2023, the Regional Y-Adapt Training of Trainers brought together passionate and driven youth from all over South Asia to collaborate on action aimed at addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time - climate change. The increasing threat of climate change disproportionately impacts young people, and as the situation worsens, the consequences of current actions and inactions will be borne by today's youth in the long term.

The MRC Interim President Rasheeda Ali, Secretary General Fathimath Himya and members of the governing board met with the Vice President of the Maldives, Uz. Hussain Mohamed Latheef, on 9th January 2024 to brief on the programs of MRC, highlighting our role as an auxiliary to the government in providing humanitarian services across the country.

MRC responds to flooding incident in Male’ City due to heavy rain.
Emergency Response volunteers from the MRC Male’ City Office were mobilized to support the response efforts in Male’ City in coordination National Disaster Management Authority and other response agencies in efforts to assist local households and migrant accommodations affected by heavy rain and flooding.

MRC completes the transfer of funds received towards the Palestine Relief Fund donations to Palestine Red Crescent Society
The Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) Palestine Relief Fund was opened on 14th October 2023 in response to the emergency appeal by Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to donate funds to support the response and relief efforts in the rapidly escalating Humanitarian Crisis in the Gaza Strip. The relief fund was initially opened from 14th to 28th October 2023, and later extended up to 12th November 2023.
